Loving Lately: Kiss That Dry Skin Goodbye

I’m starting a new blog series: loving lately.  In a nutshell, this will be a series of posts about things I have been trying or doing, and loving lately.  The series’ inaugural post is all about my latest skincare finds that combatted my dry skin woes during the seasonal transition to fall.

First up, is my new favorite cleanser.  Once upon a time, I used Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser — which I loved.  But as I have mentioned before, I like to try new things.  I switched to Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser.  Loved this one too.  The silky texture of the Kiehl’s cleanser is my favorite part.  It gently cleanses skin without drying it out.  I used it for a couple years, and then decided to change it up again. Introducing new products into a skincare regimen can stimulate skin in new, better ways — in my personal opinion.  (Testing new products can also go south real quick, so crossing my fingers the skin gods help me avoid that.)  Now, drumroll please… the Korres Greek Yoghurt Cream Cleanser is my latest favorite cleanser.  It has greek yoghurt concentrate for nourishment, honeysuckle which provides antibacterial benefits, and amaranth seed extract which calms the skin.  The combination of which has created a silky, smooth cleanser that gently cleanses my skin and does not strip it.  It smells delicious, too.  My friend who loves eating greek yoghurt got very excited when I told her about my latest find… she suggested she might end up eating it.  That I would not recommend.  (She’s a special cookie.)

My other latest find, to which I dedicated a full post here, is hyaluronic acid.  Or HA, as the experts call it.  I won’t repeat the details I shared before, but can offer an update on how I’m liking this product thus far.  I am liking it.  I apply it to my cleansed skin after my toner.  I gently dab it into my skin (including around the eyes) with my fingers, and let the serum dry.  Once dry, I continue with my skincare regimen — eye cream, moisturizer, SPF, and so on.  My skin does not feel dry anymore.  I can’t say for certain that all the credit goes to this serum because I have incorporated other products into my skincare regime, like the next one on this list, but I believe HA has played its role right. I recently came across another HA serum by The Ordinary.  It’s in the mail so I have not tested it yet, but I will and report back. Regardless of which brand product I stick with for the longish haul, HA serum is here to stay.

As I mentioned in this post, my skin was feeling dry not too long ago, due to the seasonal transition.  Thus, I went on a mission to update and expand my skincare regimen with products that would lock more moisture into my skin.  I used to run away from oil-based products, worried that my skin would be oily, my t-zone shiny (oh the horror), leading to break outs (petrified at the thought).  But, over the last couple years I have dared to incorporate oil itself into my skincare.  Kiehl’s midnight recovery oil was the first oil I started using, and I fell in love.  So, I did it again.  Over a month ago, I began incorporating Biossance Squalane and Vitamin C Rose Oil into my nightly skincare regimen and I *love* it.  It has a rose scent, so of course I adore the smell.  I wake up with soft skin.  Dare I say, softer than a baby’s bum.  Did I mention I love it?

My combat-dry-skin-mission led me to make one more change.  My moisturizer.  First, I tried Tatcha Water Cream to see if it would live up to the hype.  It is a lovely product but after a few days of use, I concluded my skin will take better to this product in the spring and summer.  It was not hydrating enough for me.  So, I was back at it — researching ultra hydrating facial moisturizers recommended by industry experts.  I finally decided on Shiseido Bio-Performance Advanced Super Revitalizing Cream based on the reviews.  I have been using it for almost 2 months, and there verdict: I love it.  My skin feels hydrated all day.  And, not oily.  Hydrated.  Major difference.  Honestly, I feel like I solved mission impossible.  Okurrr.

I believe all of these steps helped me combat dry skin, and based on my experience thus far, I would recommend them if you’re having similar troubles.  Ask your local beauty/skin retailer for samples, and see how you like them.

Gotta go.  My son just shoved his chubby finger into my new jar of moisturizer that I left out to take that fancy picture above.  Oh lovely, he just shoved it in his mouth and said yum.  Oh Lordy.  OK, hope you enjoyed the post.  Would love to hear your thoughts; comment below.  Talk again, soon!

Thank you for sharing your skin routine. Love reading your posts…hopefully your son won’t eat your fancy face cream anymore..but he did say “yum” lol.. he is such a cutie pie. Also, that moisturizer is great. I did use it for a long period of time but for some reason as I got older, my skin didn’t like it. I wanted more hydrated cream.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting! I appreciate the feedback. Ha ha, I made sure he didn’t eat any more of my fancy face cream. As time passes, our skin changes and the products we use might not work as well for us anymore. I have experienced the same with some products. Thanks for sharing! Xx
